Dear Mr. Stoffel, in your last mail you have mentioned some thoughts regarding the phenomenon of help, asking why in a booming country like India (it actually only booms for approximately 200 million people, while the other 800-900 million remain in severe poverty) such large scale calamity is tolerated. You also expressed your doubts about our work here, questioning if it’s even less then the famous drop in the ocean. Let me try to respond to your comments. Of course, the mentioned topics are quite complex, and much more could be said about it, but it is also quite simple if we try to understand it with our hearts. |

„Seek the kingdom of God within you, and the rest will be given to you…”
Well, nice sounding words; nice to read, nice to hear about. But what is their meaning? What do they really signify in modern times, or in places like ours, here at Sewa Ashram, where we are surrounded by an ocean of beds, with all kind of patients laying on them, depending on our help, the shelter, medicine, bandages and food we provide? How to just seek the kingdom within ourselves without forgetting the others who are in desperate need, who should be treated as we would like to be treated? Are such words rather a divine dichotomy, the splitting of heavens logic, unable to bridge their secular connotation and incapable to face the paradoxes of daily life? Or is there, behind such words, between the lines of “Just seek the Kingdom of God…”, a hidden path to be discovered and followed? |
